How Does Debt Settlement Work?
Debt settlement is simple: our office negotiates with your more substantial creditors in order to see if a settlement can be made. Because many creditors would prefer to receive something instead of a “strong chance of nothing,” they will many times take a settlement any where to the 15%-50% range. Although all ranges can of settlement can come available depending on the situation, a common range of settlement is in the 30-40% range. Sometimes with such a massive reduction in debt, our clients will be able to settle all their debts.
What would my Creditors Ever Agree to Such a Reduction to my Debt?
Although there are never any guarantees in debt settlement, creditors many times are very responsive to a solid debt relief negotiations. Because many times the proposed debt settlement can be backed up with the alternative of bankruptcy, many creditors would gladly take 30-35% or even less in order to avoid receiving nothing at all. We have settled substantial debts for less than 10% before: creditors know when to act on a “take it or leave it” type of offer. A settled debt provides two benefits to the creditor: 1) the ability to receive immediate cash on an account, and 2) the ability to write off and close out the remaining balance.
